President's Corner

Hello Everyone,

What wonderful weather we have all been enjoying after a rainy summer—we’ve had one warm and sunny day after another all this fall. Now that we’ve changed the clocks back and the days are getting shorter, the weather cooler, the holiday season must be right around the corner. I trust you all have your summer properties buttoned up tight for the winter season ahead.

It’s been reported to me that one of our members saw what she thought was a dog swimming in the lake toward her camp. Imagine her surprise when the “dog” turned out to be a big black bear! He came up onto her beach, shaking himself wildly as he came out of the water—a sight to behold! He made himself quite at home, sauntering around her property before heading off into the woods.
Another member reported looking out his window at the lake this fall and seeing a big male and a female moose on his beach, quite exciting to see up close. The male spent some time scratching his antlers on a nearby piece of wood. I spotted one bald eagle high up in one of my pine trees on my last visit to the lake, but others have reported seeing two around the lake in their trees. What have you seen? (My neighbor told me the most exciting thing he’s seen is a chipmunk.)

With the help of the State, Debbie St. Pierre, and Pat Baldwin, the MLRA Board was pleased to participate in the completion of environmental and safety renovations of the public beach area this fall. After agreeing on a design plan, vegetation was planted in designated areas and soil erosion control measures implemented to fulfill the goal of improving safety and protecting the lake. We hope everyone will take part in achieving this goal by keeping vehicles off the beach this winter.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
