NOTICES FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ATTENTION (UPDATED 9/27/07):

On Wednesday, September 26th, the lake level reached the level we sought (66" below the spillway) to allow repairs on properties and the dam gates have been closed to the point required to support the needs of the towns downstream.  Further reductions of the lake level are not anticipated UNLESS Mother Nature does not co-operate with any precipitation over the next few weeks.  The goal is to maintain roughly this level until the end of October, when the dam operator will, with the co-operation of Mother Nature, return the lake level to the normal Fall level (60" below the spillway).

(UPDATED 9/24/07):

As of 1PM today, the lake level has been lowered to 62.5" below the spillway.  It is anticipated that the lake level will be reduced the remaining 3.5 inches within the next 2 - 3 days (on or about Wednesday).  We will continue to keep you updated on the lake level as information becomes available.

(Updated 9/19/07):

Due to water issues downstream in Sanford, the dam has been closed until later this week.  Currently the dam sits at 48" below the spillway.  Normal Summer levels are 30" below and Fall levels are 60" below.  The lake level will be lowered to 66" below the spillway by the end of September.  Updates based upon the spillway will be provided throughout the lowering process.

9/18/07:

The dam has been opened and the lake draw down has begun, effective Monday, September 17th.  The Lake will be lowered to six (6) inches below Fall level by the end of September.  Updates as to the levels will be posted periodically throughout the draw down time frame.

LAKE LOWERING EARLIER THIS FALL - TO BE DRAWN DOWN 6 INCHES BELOW NORMAL FALL LEVEL BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2007

As you'll recall the Board agreed to seek an earlier lowering of the lake in 2007 in response to requests from several members so that they might make repairs to their properties.  At our winter meeting the Board voted to approach town officials in Sanford, Acton and Shapleigh this winter with a request to lower the lake to Fall levels by the end of September.  We will keep you posted of the results of this initiative at our web-site, and our newsletter.  If you intend to work on your property this Fall, we remind you that Town permits, approval of the Town Code Enforcement officials and perhaps even the Maine DEP may be required.  Information about the Code Enforcement Officials is included in the Spring and Winter 2007 newsletters.
