The Mousam Lake Region Association (MLRA) was organized in 1956 by a group of lake residents for the purpose of advancing the general recreational, environmental, civic, commercial, and industrial interests of Mousam Lake and of the towns in which the lake is located. During the annual meeting in July, 2007, the membership approved revised bylaws to change the Association's purpose to preserving and protecting the natural character of Mousam Lake and its surroundings, enhancing the water quality and to educate and promote responsible use of the lake as a public recreational facility for today and for future generations. In December of 2007, the Association was granted
501(c)(3) tax exempt status as a charitable organization. The Association is nonpartisan, non-sectional,
and non-sectarian. Over the years, the
Association has been instrumental in heightening the environmental
awareness of the residents of Mousam Lake. It has provided
environmental educational information to its membership and lake
residents, as well as the resources, funding, and manpower for a
successful water testing program to help ensure the protection of the
water quality of Mousam Lake. Below are just some of the
