*NOTICE* This winter’s heavy snowfall and the potential for torrential spring rains caused much concern for local town officials and the York County Emergency Management Agency (YCEMA). To preclude the flooding which has occurred during past springs both on the lake and downstream all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, local town and YCEMA representatives agreed to keep the lake level low this spring to ensure that both the lake and river could absorb the melting snow and any potential rain, thus preventing a recurrence of flooding. As a result the lake was about two feet lower at the end of April than it normally would be. The dam will be closed further within the next two weeks to allow the water level to return to its normal spring level. NEWS and NOTES
New sign welcomes visitors to the York County Lakes Region.

WANTED!!!! Volunteers for the Mousam Lake Plant Patrollers We are looking for people interested in patrolling Mousam Lake via canoe or kayak, to routinely check vegetation along the shoreline. The purpose is to quickly identify any invasive aquatic plant that may have found its way into our lake. If found quickly, eradication is much more likely. The goal is to find interested people from various locations around the lake to do late summer/early fall checks on our lake vegetation. You pick the date, time and location you wish to patrol. Any and all interested parties are welcome. Come and join the party for a fun time. For more information, please contact Pat Baldwin at pbaldwin@mousamlake.org
